Maybe Calvin was based on Plato's Symposium, to create Medardo (the good and the bad, and references to Sergio Leone is purely coincidental). The philosopher writes:
"One day Zeus, wanting to punish the man without destroying it, cut it in half. Since then each of us is the symbol of a man, half looking for the other half, the corresponding symbol. [...] Then, to heal the old wound, Zeus, after he imposed, send love, the friend of the gods among men, the doctor, the one that leads back to the ancient state. Then the condition of our existence is the division that comes together through love. The love that unites and returns the word with the meaning of our existence.
That is why we are suffering, and we only require reporting of quality and time to listen, if we are to overcome this status.
Obfuscating suffering with drug or drugs may serve to make us fall into line and the standard that others have set for us, but not to make us happier, or more humane. And the doctors of the mind and body should oversee the company more and less members. Amen.
